La Rameau (Rameau)

Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683 – 1764) was one of the most important French composers of the 18th century. His five suites for for violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord, Pièces de clavecin en concerts, were groundbreaking works in the development of chamber music. Vigorous and propulsive, La Rameau comes from the fourth suite. It could be a self-portrait of the composer, a portrait of his singer-wife Marie-Louise Mangot, or simply a sound-picture of the keyboard practice that must have gone on daily in the Rameau household.
